Thank you for signing up to hear from me! Lately email inboxes feel like the Hunger Games. You’ve got pry my email address out of my grips. This year in particular I relish in unsubscribing to the avalanche of content. So, I am deeply grateful you’re here with me as this journey unfolds.
Every Friday I’ll be here sharing a bit of what’s on my mind, updates from the blog, and a few things I’m loving. It will be a mix of life: living abroad in Portugal, intentional living, delicious food, and travel.
Oversharing on the Internet
Writing into the ether of the internet is such an interesting and unsettling experience. On one hand, you hope maybe someone else reads what you’ve painstakingly put on paper (well, other than your mom, hi mom!). You hope they connect with the language you’ve written and nod their head thinking to themselves, “yup, I’ve been there.” On the other hand, you pray that no one ever sees the inner workings of your brain, particularly the people who know you. Sometimes it’s easier to speak into the void of people you’ll never encounter without a screen.
Vulnerability in writing lies on that uncomfortable edge. You speak enough truth that it might resonate, but not so much that you shame spiral for a bit. I found that edge a couple weeks ago after sharing how deeply burnout manifested in my life over the past few years. Complete strangers can hear my story, no problem. But, you best believe I hit delete so fast the morning after I (emboldened by a glass of wine) posted my burnout story to LinkedIn. Thankfully the wise Brené Brown diagnosed me with a vulnerability hangover.
Whew, I’m not totally losing it, I’m just making up the rules as I go.
